Florence Place celebrates Valentines to Heaven

For many Valentine’s Day is that one special day set aside each year where we show our loved ones just how much we love and admire them. The beautiful residents who call Florence Place Assisted Living home know the beauty and secrets of love all too well. How does one remember their special love even when they are no longer in our presence?

Brad Richardson, Life Enrichment Coordinator, believes that love endures everything. True everlasting love cannot be separated by death. “So many of my residents are widows or widowers. They still smile and their eyes still sparkle when they talk about their spouse. So I thought, how can we acknowledge, that one we love so on this special St. Valentine’s Day. I decided to send a special Valentine message to our loved ones in Heaven. The residents made homemade valentines for their loved ones expressing their love. We then tied hearts to Valentine balloons and released them in the air to the heavens. For just a moment, it was like they were here with us to receive their special gift. They were reminded of the lesson that three things will last forever: faith, hope, and love - but the greatest of all these things is love. Each day I come to work and see the smiles of these precious souls. I am the most blessed person I know. Everyday I come to work with something new, exciting, fun, and enjoyable to do. The smiles are their faces are the rewards that bless my heart. I am lucky to have over 50 Valentines who I love and the great thing is they love me too.” This was the first annual Valentine balloon release, but this will start being an annual event.

On a side note, a few balloons did not pick up enough wind and got stuck in a tree out front. A few hours later one of the residents was outside looking at her balloon stuck in the tree. She laughed with a tear in her eye and said it is like he is here watching me and we are spending another Valentines together. True love is eternal!
