Florence Chamber wins diversity award
The Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce has been selected as a 2015 Finalist for the Excellence in Workplace Diversity Award. The Excellence in Workplace Diversity Award is given by the SC Chamber of Commerce and recognizes companies for their significant contributions to the advancement of South Carolina through diversity initiatives and inclusion efforts. Criteria considered in selecting the winners included diversity initiatives, effectiveness and applicability/replicability.
The nominees and winner will be recognized during the Palmetto Vision Awards Gala in September. The Florence Chamber staff and its Director of Community & Minority Enterprise, Les Echols, have made significant efforts to offer and promote diversity and programs that help small and minority businesses succeed. Those include PRISM (Promoting the Inclusion of Small and Minority Businesses), Building Bridges, our Business of the Quarter outreach program in conjunction with the City of Florence, the Shark Chamber Business Pitch Competition, Small Business Expos and Seminars and a Legislative Breakfast geared toward small business concerns. “The Chamber has put a significant focus on diversity programs over the past couple of years and we are actively working to make our signature programs even better.
We recognize that diversity is an essential part of a thriving economy and are creating expanding opportunities for the a diverse group of business leaders.”commented Mike Miller, President, Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce. “Being recognized as a finalist for this award is a humbling reminder that the work we are doing in this community, really matters, said Les Echols, director of Community & Minority Enterprise, Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce. “Through our PRISM, Building Bridges and other diversity-specific programs, we are taking actual steps to try to create an environment in the Pee Dee where any business can succeed. ”
