FDTC hosting Computer Build

on Tuesday, 09 June 2015. Posted in News, Education

Florence-Darlington Technical College’s Continuing Education Division is hosting a five week Computer Build for at risk high school students at the College’s Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing and Technology (SiMT). The students will learn how to build and operate a computer. The students are part of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Summer Youth Program. FDTC’s Continuing Education Division is hosting a computer build for the students that will teach each student how to build a computer from the ground up. The students will then get to take their new computer home.

Eight students will be taking the course and will also take a certification exam that will give them a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) designation. According to FDTC Computer Technology Instructor Matt Lemke, the certification, will give the students “a great bullet point on their resume.” Lemke is going to teach the course. The students will also be treated to visits from other professionals at the SiMT to talk with about careers in Information Technology and College Admissions officials will be on hand to speak with them about furthering their academics. The classes begin at 9 a.m. each morning. For more information, call Clay Williams, Director of Public Relations at FDTC, at 661-8240.
