FCS teacher is State Teacher of the Year
The South Carolina Independent School Association’s 2015 Teacher of the Year for K through fifth grade is Amber Nesbit at Florence Christian School. Mrs. Nesbit teaches 5K at the school. The six-year veteran of the classroom received her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Bob Jones University. She is married to Chris Nesbit, and the couple has a son. “Mrs. Nesbit exemplifies the quality of the SCISA teachers,” Larry Watt, SCISA executive director, said. “She is the best of the best.”
When not in the classroom, Nesbit participates in Sunday School sponsored community projects. A member of Florence Baptist Temple, she is the care group leader for the Sunday School group, and she volunteers in the nursery. There are approximately 3,600 teachers within the membership of the association. The association presents a cash award to each of the teachers of the year. The South Carolina Independent School Association is a non-profit, voluntary association of over 120 independent schools serving more than 37,000 teachers and students.
