Domestic Violence Awareness event set for Tuesday evening
In observance of Domestic Violence Awareness month, Limestone College will hold events at Extended Campus locations throughout South Carolina on Tuesday, Oct. 27. In Florence, the event will be held at Limestone’s Extended Campus location at 2724 W. Palmetto Street and starts at 6 p.m. Representatives from the Pee Dee Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Assault, including a former Limestone graduate, will present information regarding domestic violence and sexual assault in a round-table discussion.
Coalition advocates will also be available to answer questions and provide resources for assistance. In addition, a domestic violence survivor from Sisters 4 the Future will be on hand to discuss her organization and motivation behind its inception. Weather permitting, the program will end with a candlelight vigil to honor survivors.
For more information about this event, call 843-662-3517. According to the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence, one in four women will be the victim of domestic violence at some point in her lifetime, and, on average, three women are killed every day at the hands of a current or former intimate partner. Limestone College is hosting these events to raise public awareness about domestic violence and to provide support for those who have lost someone to domestic violence.
