Bearcats prevail, Matthews leads Patriots with 20
Lander shot a sizzling 65.5 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes to pull away from Francis Marion University and record a 100-80 victory Saturday in Peach Belt Conference men’s basketball action.
The Patriots will play at Augusta Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., and then return to the Smith University Center to host Clayton State Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
Junior forward Keith Matthews led Francis Marion with a career-high 20 points, on 7-of-11 shooting, and a team-high five rebounds. It marks the second straight contest the Columbia native has registered a new career high for points.
Sophomore guard Gabriel Dickerson came off the FMU bench to notch a career-high 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting.
Sophomore center Winston Hill added 11 points, senior point guard Jaquez Smith nine, and sophomore guard Alex Cox and freshman center Jamal Edmondson eight apiece.
