American Legion presents JrROTC awards at South Florence
On Friday, May 11th the Fred H. Sexton American Legion Post 1 presented awards to two JrROTC cadets at the school’s annual recognition ceremonies. They were presented American Legion medals and a certificate describing the award. The recipients were Cadet Blake Jackson for scholastic excellence and Cadet Abigail Sansbury for military excellence.
The entire complement of cadets received various awards for their academic and military accomplishments during the year.
The Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JrROTC) program is run in schools across America and the American Legion is proud to participate and support it. The cadets learn about the military and the discipline that it requires. It builds self-confidence and an appreciation for teamwork and hard work. Some of the cadets put this training to good use by joining the military or by pursuing ROTC programs in college.
The program at South Florence is a Navy program with retired Navy personnel acting as instructors. They are very enthusiastic and proud of their cadets. They get to see them develop from their freshmen year to graduation.
