The Florence National Cemetery hosted the 150th anniversary of Memorial Day on Monday, May 28, at 10 a.m.

COL (R) Barringer Wingard Jr., Master of Ceremony and Programs Coordinator once again put together a special program designed to celebrate all veterans, current members of the military and their families. However, thier focus remained on those service members who gave their lives while wearing our nation’s uniform.

Some highlights from the ceremony were the remarks by the esteemed speaker, BG James H. Raymer of US Army Central.

The event included the National Anthem performed by representatives of the Florence Little Theater, presentation of Colors by the Charles Deven Jr. Camp No. 10, Sons of the Unions Veterans of the Civil War, cannon fire by the Pee Dee Light Artillery & Palmetto Battalion Re-enactors, and rifle volley and Taps by the Veterans Honor Guard.

The post ceremony featured Florence National Cemetery’s Living History program! The South Carolina Reenactors, wearing various war period clothing, portrayed characters and regaled with tales of their past.
