WFHS Leo Club inducts officers, members
West Florence High School Leo Club inducted officers and members on Oct. 22. The club is sponsored by the Florence Evening Lions Club. The Leo Club Program is an official program of Lions Clubs International with the objective being “…to provide the youth of the world with an opportunity for development and contribution, individually and collectively, as responsible members of the local, national and international community.”
The Leo Club Motto is Leadership, Experience, Opportunity. Leo members acquire skills as project organizers and motivators of their peers. They discover how teamwork and cooperation can bring about change in their community and the world. Leos develop positive character traits and receive recognition for their contributions.
Under the leadership and direction of Lion Rhonda Tiwari, Leo Club advisor, the club has a 135 Leo membership, making it the largest in South Carolina. Their latest service project involves collecting cleaning supplies for flood victims. Others include used eyeglasses collection for recycling in developing countries, handmade well-wishing card collection for soldiers overseas, and clothes, hat and glove collection for distribution.
“The kids are just super and make my job very easy. They are in complete control; I have to hang on for the ride,” said Rhonda. Lions club President Matt Jones stated, “This program provides our youth an opportunity to do humanitarian service for those in need, develop leadership skills and foster teamwork and gain invaluable experience. All the youth are to be commended for helping to make the world a better place.”
