The Continuum Grand opening planned for Aug. 6
Florence-Darlington Tech Fall Orientation and Open House this Friday
The highly anticipated opening of The Continuum in Lake City is approaching, and organizers are pleased to announce a ribbon cutting ceremony and community open house.
The special event will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 6. at 10 a.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring Gov. Henry McMaster, Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman and Darla Moore Foundation President and CEO Marion S. Fowler III. An open house will follow and continue until 2 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
FDTC is scheduled to move into the new 46,000-square-foot facility this summer. The collaboration is due to a partnership between the college, Francis Marion University, and The Darla Moore Foundation.
The Continuum is an innovative new educational entity where students will be educated and trained with the goal of providing a skilled workforce to the region and beyond. Hundreds of high school and technical college students are already registered for classes which will begin later in August. Courses in a variety of disciplines will be offered across the Continuum’s many academic tracks.
Dual enrollment courses, led by FMU faculty, will include English, math, history, biology, chemistry, art, music, business, computer science, education, pre-engineering and pre-nursing.
Initially, the technical education and workforce development courses will provide training in HVAC, welding, health sciences, mechatronics and advanced manufacturing technology.
Students may acquire credits towards high school diplomas, towards certificates, towards two-year degrees, and - through both dual enrollment courses and regular college courses
“FDTC’s partnership with The Continuum allows us to offer high-quality technical education to the people of Lake City and the surrounding communities like never before,” said Interim Director of the FDTC Lake City Campus, Celeste Nunn.
During the Fall Orientation and Open House on Friday, July 26, attendees will get a first look at the state-of-the-art facility. Tours will be given, and students can register for classes, reserve textbooks, get their IDs made, and learn about financial aid and student support services.
The event is set to begin at 9 a.m. and last until 12 p.m. Free food and refreshments will be available for attendees.
“Our Open House event will give new students and prospective students the chance to ask questions, learn more about our programs, and make sure they are prepared to start classes in this fabulous new facility,” Nunn said.
