South Florence High to begin search for Boys Varsity Basketball Coach
South Florence High announced that John Schweitz has resigned as Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at South Florence High School.
“We greatly appreciate all that Coach Schweitz has done for athletics at South Florence in directing the boys basketball program,” said South Florence Athletic Director Bob Wilson. In giving his resignation, Coach Schweitz said to me that he felt it was the right time, and as a former coach, I certainly understand and respect that position,” he added.
Wilson announced that Schweitz will continue serving as a physical education teacher at South Florence. “Coach Schweitz’s presence as a teacher and positive role model makes a difference in the lives of our students, and we are glad to have him continue to be a part of the Bruin community,” said Wilson.
South Florence Principal Kim Mack said, “Coach Schweitz has served the South Florence community well in his tenure as Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach. He has worked with many young men, including my sons, and he has helped them to develop skills that transcend the courts.”
The Bruins went 11-13 this past season and tied for third in Region VIAAAAA, advancing to the AAAAA State Playoffs prior to being eliminated by Lexington.
Wilson said a search for a South Florence Boys Varsity Basketball Coach for the 2019-2020 school year will begin immediately.
