Six High School students make All-State Chorus
Six local high school students have made the South Carolina Music Education Association’s (SCMEA) 2019 All-State Chorus. South Florence High School’s all-state chorus members are Antonio Brown, Joryll Robinson and Jah’Reon Robinson. West Florence High School’s all-state choir members are Dontex Haggins, Joshua Barrett and Kendal Harvey.
In order to be selected, the students auditioned in an acapella quintet singing a classical piece by Handel. They were also required to sight-sing a melody that they had never seen before.
The All-State Choral clinic is a weeklong event that will be held at Winthrop University in March and conducted by prominent composers/ conductors from across the country. The program provides an opportunity for superior choral students to sing together and to represent South Carolina in statewide events. The South Carolina All-State Chorus program provides an intensive and demanding vocal experience, which fosters self-discipline and personal growth as well as musicianship.
High school music instructors of students who made all-state chorus are Dr. Erick Figueras, (South Florence) and Nikki Frabott (West Florence).
