The Francis Marion University Center of Excellence to Prepare Teachers of Children of Poverty will provide a total of $2,800 for three school projects in Florence School District One. The three projects are Man Up, a male mentoring program at South Florence High; Steam Ahead with Reading, which will provide access to reading materials in the native languages of ESOL (English Speaking other Languages) families at Delmae Heights Elementary; and Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead Engineering Club, designed to increase mathematics skills of students at John W. Moore Intermediate.

According to Markey Bee, Associate Director of the Center of Excellence, these projects will improve educational opportunities for the students. The outreach projects, submitted under the auspices of the National Network of Partnership Schools, are headed by Cedrick Kennedy at South Florence; Jenalee Shepard at Delmae; and Kay McSwain at Moore.
