Youth, teen Summer reading programs continue

The Florence County Library System will welcome Rockstar Magic for Summer Reading 2019. This year’s theme, “Universe of Stories!,” encourages children to discover the world through reading.

Summer Reading 2019 is funded by American Trophy Company, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Betsy Enzor (State Farm), FBi Construction, First Bank, Friends of Florence County Library, Ideal Funeral Parlor, Inc., Jebaily Law Firm, Koppers, Dr. David Moss, Nan Ya Plastics, Nationwide: Hodge Ethridge Insurance and Finance LLC, Parham Law Firm LLC, the South Carolina State Library & Institute of Museum and Library Service, Stifel, Nicolaus & Company, Inc., Toledo Carolina, Inc., and Willcox, Buyck & Williams, P. A.

Through their generous efforts, special programming designed to educate, entertain, and inspire children will be held system-wide, in keeping with the library system’s mission to promote literacy in Florence County.

Chris and Neal of Rockstar Magic are full time professional entertainers who perform hundreds of magic shows every year.

The shows will be on June 19 at the following locations:

_ Lake City Public Library, 9 a.m.

_ Florence County Library, 3 p.m.

Storyteller to visit

The Florence County Library Teen Services Department has planned weekly programs to celebrate the theme “Universe of Stories” and encourage teens to read and learn during the summer. On Thursday, June 20, from 3:30-4:30, local storyteller Jess Willis will share stories based on stars and constellations with the teens. It is open to all rising sixth through 12th graders.

Escape Rooms at Florence Co. Library 

The Florence County Library Teen Services Department has planned weekly programs to celebrate the theme “Universe of Stories” and encourage teens to read and learn during the summer. On Thursday, June 27, the library will host two escape rooms for teens. One is from 2 to 3 p.m. and the other is from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Registration is required. Teens may register once for one time. This program is free and open to all rising sixth through 12th graders.

Grey Seal Puppets

The Florence County Library System will welcome Grey Seal Puppets for Summer Reading 2019.

Three favorite folk tales from around the world will be presented: “The Frog Prince” from Germany teaches the importance of a promise; “Three Billy Goats Gruff” from Scandinavia warns against gluttony; and “The Three Little Pigs” from England is all about doing the job right.

Monday, June 24

John E. Thomason Public Library, Olanta, 11:30 a.m.

Baker Memorial Public Library, Timmonsville, 3 p.m.

Tuesday, June 25

Johnsonville Public Library, 11:30 a.m. Pamplico Public Library, 3 p.m.

Wednesday, June 26

Lake City Public Library, 11:30 a.m.

Florence County Library, 3 p.m.
