SYMPHONY GOES GERSHWIN: Orchestra to offer two Sunday afternoon performances at PAC

on Tuesday, 08 June 2021. Posted in Arts & Culture, Education, Local News

The Florence Smphony Orchestra will perform two programs at the Francis Marion University Performign Arts Center on Sunday.

The Florence Symphony Orchestra will return to the Francis Marion University Performing Arts Center main stage on Sunday. The symphony will be performing a concert titled “At the Movies with Gershwin.” The performance will feature pianist Thomas Pandolfi playing “Rhapsody in Blue.” This concert was originally scheduled as the finale for the FSO’s 2019-20 season. It was planned as a celebration for the Florence Symphony Guild’s 50th anniversary but was postponed because of the pandemic. “We are so excited to have people back in the PAC to see the symphony,” said Pamela Glass, the FSO’s executive director. “We were able to perform a few outdoor concerts this past year, but we’ve all missed the indoor performances and the full concert experience. Life is just sweeter with live music.” With that thought in mind, the FSO is offering a sweet surprise to customers of many local businesses. Various restaurants, shops and salons in Florence will be treating customers to the June 13th concert at the PAC. “We are putting 100 tickets out there and attaching them to chocolate symphony bars,” Glass said. “Local merchants will be surprising random customers with these tickets. It’s going to be a fun way to introduce more people to the symphony and get the word out about the upcoming season.” There will be two performances of the “At the Movies with Gershwin” concert, at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Although audience capacity is still limited to ensure social distancing, masks are no longer required for patrons who have been fully vaccinated, according to Bud Simmons, the PAC director. Season tickets for the FSO’s 2021-22 season, “Bach to Broadway,” will go on sale to new subscribers on July 1. “Maestro [Terry] Roberts has prepared an exciting and diverse upcoming season, which includes performances by some incredibly talented homegrown virtuosi who have risen to the heights of musical excellence,” said FSO Chairman Brad Parham. Information on the new season can be found at Season tickets are available online and at the FMU PAC.
