Starr Ward Chamber Music spring concerts
Two special concerts are planned this spring as part of the FDDC Starr Ward Chamber Music Concerts.
On Sunday, April 8, Yoonah Kim, clarinet, will perform. She is the winner of the 2016 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition.
In 2016, Korean-Canadian clarinetist Yoonah Kim became the first woman to win first prize at the Vandoren Emerging Artist Competition, and the first solo clarinetist to win CAG in nearly 30 years. She has performed with The Juilliard and Mannes Orchestras, and in recitals at Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space and Alice Tully Hall. A member of Ensemble Connect, she serves as an ambassador for Carnegie Hall in New York City public schools.
On Sunday, May 6 Sara Ann Mitchell Jebaily, soprano, will perform. An emerging coloratura soprano, Sara is known for her shimmering voice and engaging stage presence. Most recently, Sara performed the role of the first maid in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro with Austin Lyric Opera. As a regular at Des Moines Metro Opera, Ms. Mitchell performed the role of the First Niece in Britten’s Peter Grimes, and covered the roles of Lisette in Pucinni’s La rondine and Sister Constance in Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites.
Sara also toured with Opera Iowa, the educational outreach division of Des Moines Metro Opera.
Both concerts will be performed in the banquet hall of Victor’s Bistro in the Hotel Florence at 5 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door. A meet the artist reception will follow.
