Library to host local authors
The Doctors Bruce and Lee Foundation Library is accepting applications for its Pee Dee Author Expo in December.
Seventeen local authors will be invited to display and sell their books in the Joseph Stukes Meeting Room from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec.14. The public is invited to come and visit with the authors, peruse their books, and purchase copies if desired.
A downloadable application for authors is available on the library’s website. The deadline for applications (with book submissions) is Nov.1.
This program is made possible by Friends of Florence County Library.
Plant-based diet presentation, tasting
The Doctors Bruce and Lee Foundation Library presents Haley Vasuki, who will talk about the health benefits of a whole food, plant-based diet. Vasuki will demonstrate how to make a creamy cashew Alfredo pasta on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 6:30 p.m.
Ms. Vasuki founded Plant Empowered Florence, a volunteer group aimed at using plant-based foods for good in the community. In March 2019, she coordinated VEGFEST Florence, which was the city’s first ever plant-based food festival.
Vasuki will discuss how plant-based foods can be useful in preventing and in some cases improving outcomes for conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and cancer.
Space is limited and registration is required for this free adult program.
