Florence Library’s Summer Reading Program is here
Youth can explore the world with the Florence County Library System during the 2019 Summer Reading Program. This year’s theme, “Universe of Stories!” encourages children and teens to discover the world and other cultures through reading. The Summer Reading Program, which is open to youth from babies to young adults, features weekly programs, prize drawings, storytimes, a summer reading club, and more.
Summer Reading 2019 is funded by American Trophy Company, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Betsy Enzor (State Farm), FBi Construction, First Bank, Friends of Florence County Library, Ideal Funeral Parlor, Inc., Jebaily Law Firm, Koppers, Dr. David Moss, Nan Ya Plastics, Nationwide: Hodge Ethridge Insurance and Finance LLC, Parham Law Firm LLC, the South Carolina State Library & Institute of Museum and Library Service, Stifel, Nicolaus & Company, Inc., Toledo Carolina, Inc., and Willcox, Buyck & Williams, P. A. Through their generous efforts, special programming designed to educate, entertain, and inspire children will be held system-wide, in keeping with the library system’s mission to promote literacy in Florence County. All programs are free of charge at all locations.
Summer Reading and other programs will be held at each library branch.
These are the scheduled dates and times:
Special summer programming will be held on Wednesdays at 3: p.m. in the Joseph Stukes Meeting Room at the Florence County Library. Programs are scheduled for the following dates:
•June 5 - Mr. Scooter: Hip Hop
•June 12 - Porkchop Productions: Chicken Little
•June 19 - Rockstar Magic
•June 26 - Grey Seal Puppets: Tangle of Tales
•July 3 - Movie
•July 10 - Gravity Check: Jugglers
Sunday family movies will continue throughout the summer. Movies will be shown Sundays at 2:30 p.m. in the Privette Children’s Program Room. Movies are scheduled for June 9th-July 14th. All movies are free of charge.
The library will be offering Fine Arts Friday for children in grades 5K-3rd, beginning June 14th–July 12th at 3:30 p.m. Children will be working with a variety of art forms. Registration is limited.
The library will be offering Monday Library Lab for children and teens in grades 4th-8th, beginning June 10th–July 8th at 3:30 p.m. Children and teens will be doing a variety of science activities including Portable Planetarium, robotics, circuits, Legos, building, and drones. Registration is limited.
The library will be offering Bookworms Book Club for children in grades 3rd -5th on Tuesday, June 25th at 3 p.m. This summer’s select is The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. Registration is limited.
The Teen Services Department will be hosting Summer Reading programs this summer for rising 6th through 12th graders. Programs at the branch are as follows:
● June 6 (1 p.m.to 3 p.m.) Game Day with Florence RedWolves
● June 10 (6 p.m. to 7 p.m.) Workshop with Porkchop Productions *Registration is limited and required *
● June 13 (2 p.m. to 4 p.m.) Fisher & Mattie of 103X
● June 20 (3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.) Celestial Stories with Jessica Willis
● June 27 (2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.) Escape Room

● July 4 Closed
● July 11 (3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.) Star Sign Craft
Movies will be shown to rising 6th through 12th graders on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. at the Florence County Library on June 11, June 18, June 25, July 2, and July 9. Movies are rated PG-13.
Teens Create is open to rising 7th through 12th graders. Programs are on June 11 and July 9 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
