Doll & Toy Show, Sale to be held Saturday

on Thursday, 17 September 2015. Posted in Good life, Arts & Culture

The Pee Dee Doll Club presents its 29th Annual Doll & Toy Show & Sale on Saturday, Sept 19. “This year we are excited about our new location the SiMT Conference Center,” commented Pam Wade. The center is located behind Florence-Darlington Technical College at 1951 Pisgah Road off I-95 at exit 164 and Hwy. 52 in Florence. Show times are 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and children under 12 are free. Door prizes will be given every half-hour.

The Pee Dee Doll club welcomes over 15 dealers coming from the Southeast for this event. Show attendants will be able to browse through several tables of collectible dolls and fashion dolls such as Madame Alexander and Tonner. Lots of new and vintage Barbie’s and Barbie clothes will be available. Find that special antique doll, composition doll, or vinyl doll. Enjoy shopping for doll accessories, including doll furniture, doll clothes, paper dolls, collectible toys and action figures.

The Pee Dee Doll Club members will be celebrating the 20th Anniversary of “Gene.” The Gene Marshall doll was designed by Mel Odom in 1995. The Gene doll stands 15.5” tall and is the glamour doll of Hollywood’s golden age of 1920s to 1950s. Club members will display some of their most favorite Gene dolls from their collections.

The public is invited to come and enjoy this beautiful display celebrating the 20th anniversary of the famous Gene doll. Also, you may bring your collectible dolls for appraising and identification by Bradley Justice from Durham, NC. A fee of $3 per doll will be charged. Try for a chance to win dolls donated by Mattel, Tonner, and Wilde Imagination (EIlowyne). The Alexander Doll Company and dealers will also share in the fundraiser.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to support the Camp Happy Days, a camp for children undergoing chemotherapy. Organized in 1984, the Pee Dee Doll Club is a nonprofit organization made up of junior and senior doll lovers. The club meets monthly at the Florence County Library to study and share doll knowledge. If you have any questions please call Angie at 843-472-1311 or Debbie at 843-229-2614.
