on Tuesday, 24 September 2019. Posted in News, Arts & Culture, Local News

The Florence Little Theatre will hold auditions for Dreamgirls, The Musical Sunday, Sept. 29 and Wednesday Oct. 2. Auditions begin both nights at 7 p.m. Registration begins 30 minutes prior to audition time. All audition materials will be provided.

The production will be directed by Cole Davis. Production dates are Jan. 24 through Feb. 1.

Auditions are open to performers ages 16 and older. All performers under18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Please bring a non-returnable head shot, if available. This does not have to be a professional photograph. A printed cell phone photo is fine.

Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes that allow you to move.

Florence Little Theatre auditions are open to everyone.

We pride ourselves on having newcomers backstage or in the cast of every production. All auditions are held at the Florence Little Theatre. Prior experience is not required. Usually, those who are auditioning will be asked to read scenes from the show with others.

For musicals auditions, you will be asked to sing a song which demonstrates your vocal abilities. The musical director will go over the song before you are asked to sing. You will also be required to dance and the choreographer for the production will go over a dance with you before you dance for the director.

Sometimes, there are callbacks after the auditions; these are opportunities for the director to make his final decision before casting roles. It is important to know that not being called back does not mean that you will not be cast in the production.

Dreamgirls: The Musical is a sweeping and inspirational journey through 20th century American popular music. The show chronicles one Motown group’s rise from obscurity to superstardom. Through gospel, R&B, smooth pop, disco and more, Dreamgirls explores themes of ambition, hope and betrayal, all set in the glamorous and competitive world of the entertainment industry.
