32nd Annual Doll and Toy show hosted in Florence
On September 29 the 32nd annual doll and toy show was held at the Florence-Darlington Technical college’s SiMT building. The event is sponsored by the Pee Dee Doll Club, which has been around since the early 1980’s. The club allows doll enthusiasts to come together and share their love and knowledge of dolls. The club consists of roughly 15 members.
President Angie Hayek says that there were roughly 25 different ‘doll dealers’ as they affectionly call themselves. The event had dolls from all different years, makes, and styles.
Andrea Morris is one such ‘doll dealer’. She creates life-like dolls. She usually sells them online, but this year ventured out to the doll show to sell some of her creations.
Mr. Van Davis is a long time doll show participant. He has been buying and selling dolls sine the 1970’s. Van Davis goes to roughly 10 shows a year in order to buy and sell different dolls. He got started when his former wife wanted a specific doll over forty years ago.
Debbie Howell is a member of the Pee Dee Doll Club. She has her own personal collection of dolls. She enjoys the doll show because it allows her to meet other doll enthusiasts and share stories with them. Howell’s favorite dolls are vintage Barbie dolls along with Madame Alexander.
The Pee Dee Doll Club meets every third Sunday of the month at the Florence County Library.
