‘Willy Wonka Jr.’ opens new season at FLT

Florence Little Theatre presents “Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka Jr.,” during the weekends of July 15-17 and July 22-24. “Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka Jr.” follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whomever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy.

Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats, but the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka’s rules in the factory – or suffer the consequences.

Featuring the enchanting songs from the 1971 film starring Gene Wilder in addition to a host of fun new songs, “Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka Jr.” is a scrumdidilyumptious musical guaranteed to delight everyone’s sweet tooth. The play is based on the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. It was adapted for the stage by Leslie Bricusse and Timothy A. McDonald with words and music by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newly.

Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka Jr. is underwritten by McLeod Health, directed by Joey Webster with musical direction by Cole Davis. The cast features Cavender Holt as Willy Wonka, Rufus Brown as Charlie Bucket, Faith Hyman as Veruca Salt, Erin Dozier as Violet Beauregarde, Freeman Williams as Mike Teavee, and Reilly Mizell as Augustus Goop.

Also Jordan Taylor is Mrs. Bucket, Dylan Hudson is Mr. Bucket, Olyvia Gregg is Phineous Trout, Erika Maliszewski is Mrs. Gloop, Bailey Barefoot is Ms. Teavee, Kathleen Covington is Mrs. Beauregarde, Hunter Smith is Mr. Salt, Daniel Hilbourn is Grandpa Joe, Landen Allen is the Candy Man, Olivia Parrott is Grandma Josephinea, Tori Maldonado is Grandma Georgina, Harrison Walker is Grandpa George, Daeshawn Judge is James and Emi Weaver is Matilda.

The CandyMan Chorus, Cooks and Squirrels include Micah Allen, Madison Clark, Sydney Conner, Taliyah Fenner, Caleb Howell, Alex Perez, Lani Polanco, Megan Reaves, Gracie Smith, Noah Twiggs and Will Walker. The Oompa-Loompas Chorus features John Bacon, Abigail Bacon, Mykenna Blankenship, Klay Baker, Madison Brown, Emma Dozier, SallyAnn Frost, Maura Hilbourn, Dazia Judge, Frauley Grace King, Alaina Naylor, Tyler Russell, Amelia Sprawls, Tristen Stuckey, Tripp Taylor and Weatherly Tiller.

Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka, Jr. runs July 15-17 and July 22-24, with performances Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets are reserved seating $15 for adults and $10 for students.
