DR. RANDY BRIDGES PREPARES TO SAMPLE THOMASENA’S CUPCAKES

Earlier this year, South Florence High School student Thomasena Thomas received recognition at the Florence School District One School Board meeting for her success with FairyCakessc Cupcake Company. “The mission of FairyCakessc is to inspire youth to find their purpose and passion in life and to pursue it,” said Thomas. “We utilize this concept by allowing students to participate in our company by being FairyReps, taking part in contests and other special opportunities.

We are known for crafting delicious made-from-scratch desserts that are inspired by childhood memories creating nostalgia for the customer.” Thomas began FairyCakessc at the age of 14 and has been featured in local and regional news highlighting her company. She has been honored as a recipient of the Disney Dreamers Academy, where she met entertainer Steve Harvey, who encouraged her and other young entrepreneurs to pursue their dreams.

Thomas has also been featured in local media, including WMBF as the Student Spotlight, Essence Magazine, VIP Magazine and most recently featured in the Morning News’ “Faces of February,” a series honoring young African Americans in the Pee Dee. Thomas shares her love of baking with the South Florence High School faculty and staff through Friday sales. She also provides her culinary delights at special community venues.

She will partner with the Girl Scouts of Florence to mentor young girls through her nonprofit organization Passion and Pursuit. Currently, she serves as president of the Florence Career Center’s National Technical Honor Society. Thomas aspires to attend Francis Marion University to study business management while maintaining her business. She hopes to study abroad in France and open her own bakery by the age of 21. She may be reached at fairycakessc@ gmail.com.
