Rain Barrel Art Review winners listed
Thornwell School for the Arts and Williamson Park Committee took top awards in the 2015 Rain Barrel Art Review sponsored by the Florence Darlington Stormwater Consortium (FDSC). Open to schools and community groups in Florence and Darlington counties, the goal of the competition was to educate the public about the benefits of using rain barrels to reduce runoff and protect water quality. A total of 11 rain barrels were entered in the competition. Completed barrels were displayed at Kalmia Gardens’ Earth Day festival held on April 18 where visitors voted for their favorite barrel in each category.
Prizes were awarded for the top three barrels in each category. All of the barrels will be installed in public locations to serve as demonstrations of rainwater harvesting. Photographs of all barrels will be available for viewing on the FDSC website. The winners are: School First – Thornwell School for the Arts, Stacy Johnson, Art Club Second – Delmae Elementary School, Deborah Chapman, Science and Art Clubs Third – Sneed Middle School, Lisa Perry, Environmental Action and Art Clubs Community Group First – Williamson Park Committee Second – Barnes Street Activity Center Third – Maple Park Community Center
