Raging Storm basketball team assists elderly couple
The “Raging Storm” basketball team completed a community service project for an elderly couple at 1009 Kershaw Street on Saturday, July 2. They cleaned the couple’s yard and trimmed their shrubbery. Team members know that if they don’t participate, they don’t get to play in the next tournament, with the exception of those you have to work, explained Pat Gibson-Hye Moore, team general manager.
To be a member of the Alliance for Youth “Raging Storm” basketball team, each member must maintain no less than a “C” average in academics, participate in fundraisers and perform community service. “We teach to build self-esteem, teamwork, sportsmanship and hard work.
These attributes help our young men grow into productive adults with a purpose for their lives,” said Mrs. Moore. There is no fee to join the team. Support comes from donations and fundraisers. On Saturday, June 25, the team brought home the championship trophy from a tournament in Mullins. While the storm raged on the outside, these young men raged on the gym floor.
