Next Cooks for Christ benefit is April 21
Cooks for Christ will host a chicken bog benefit for Margaret Reaves on Thursday, April 21 at the West Florence Fire Station on Pine Needles Road in Florence. The menu consists of chicken bog, green beans, slaw and bread. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and dinner will be served from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. A bake sale will be held all day. Plates are $7 each and lunch and dinner can be delivered for orders of 7 plates or more.
To donate, make checks payable to the Margaret Reaves Medical Fund. Margaret Reaves resides in Mullins and is a member of Friendship Baptist Church. In 2012 she was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. A mastectomy was performed followed by 18 chemotherapy treatments and 35 radiation treatments. During cancer treatment, a dissection of the aorta was discovered. In June 2013 she was referred to Duke University and had thoracic surgery to repair the aorta.
Following surgery, a large cyst was found and she was sent to MUSC for another surgery in September 2013. She has endured two additional surgeries since that time. Since this particular breast cancer is so aggressive, there is no targeted therapy plan and she is closely monitored by her oncologist. Currently, she is considered to be in remission. Margaret travels to Duke often for check-ups to insure the dissection does not tear further. Cooks for Christ is raising funds to help with unpaid medical bills, travel and ongoing expenses.
