Lions and Leos make Christmas brighter for some local youth
West Florence High School Leo members assist a child shopping for clothing

The Florence Evening Lions, South Florence and West Florence High School Leos Clubs combined forces on Saturday, Dec. 3, to entertain and assist deserving children of Florence School District One during the Christmas season.

McDonald’s provided free breakfast and $10 gift cards. The participating children watched the arrival of Santa Claus on a fire truck. Santa and his elves then presented each child a gift-wrapped present. The children, chaperoned by Leos, were treated to a $100 shopping spree of clothing items only.

Meeting humanitarian service needs for youth is a club priority.

Project chairman Lion Waylon Hilley, commented “Money raised during fundraising activities, donations and grants allow Lions to meet pressing needs in our community. Services we provide change and enhance the quality of life for those in need.

“Just knowing that we have made a positive impact in someone’s life is priceless,” he added.

Lions’ members thank everyone who contributed and volunteered in making this project happen. Contributions truly help Lions to provide needed services to worthy citizens in our community.

Anyone who would like to donate to this and other worthy service initiatives is asked to mail their donation to: Lion Audrey Croshaw, 1907 Cypress Road, Florence, SC 29505. Checks should be made payable to: Florence Evening Lions Club Foundation.

The Florence Evening Lions Club meets on first and third Thursday at 7 p.m., Lizard Thicket, 1712 W. Palmetto Street. The club is a group of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs. They are continuously looking for service-minded individuals who are willing to volunteer their time for the betterment of mankind.
