Lighthouse Ministries receives gift of fans from Agape Hospice
Lighthouse Ministries received a donation of 20 fans from representatives of Agape Hospice. The fans will be distributed as part of a special service offered by Lighthouse Ministries. Individuals 55 years and older may qualify for a free fan, a service that helps to lessen the health complications that can occur when individuals are living in dwellings with no or poorly working AC. Cathy Cantey, Agape Hospice’s Volunteer Coordinator, has been organizing fan and blanket drives for Lighthouse Ministries for the past 12 years.
“In the summer, she keeps them cool, and in the winter she keeps them warm,” says Colan Shiver, Senior Solutions Advisor. Agape Hospice purchases the items using donations provided by King Cadillac Buick GMC of Florence, Jonathan Lamb from Lamb’s Produce, residents from the Carolinian Retirement Community, and other community members. “We are incredibly grateful,” says Cecilia Meggs, executive director for Lighthouse Ministries, “This has been the hottest summer we’ve seen in many years.
Unfortunately, many people in our area do not have adequate air conditioning. By providing these fans, we’re able to make a small improvement in the health and the comfort of those who receive them.” Fans are distributed on Tuesdays and Thursdays between noon and 3 p.m. Recipients must reside in Florence County, be over 55, have a photo ID and social security card, and may not have received a fan in the last two years.
