Elks make donation to Manna House
Florence Elks’' Lodge No. 1020 presented a check for $5,500 to the Manna House of Florence on Thursday, Sept. 24.
Every year the Elks apply for grants through their national foundation and award these grants to different agencies throughout the community. This year lodges were allowed to make direct cash donations to agencies that were either affected by the COVID-19 pandemic or have a direct impact on those folks who were directly affected by the pandemic.
Lodge members selected Manna House to receive the donation. Manna House has a direct impact on our underserved community by cooking and serving meals. During the pandemic the Manna House has been overwhelmed with requests for assistance.
Manna House is mostly volunteers, so when the pandemic hit they had to give up their breakfast because of a shortage of volunteer servers. The organization has been able to continue feeding lunch, but with numbers drastically increased. Also strained is a food pantry, which they operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The Elks’ slogan of “Elks Care, Elks’ Share” is truly showing with this donation of $5,500.
Hopefully this will make a big impact on Manna House being able to continue their service to our Florence community,” said C.P. Anderson of the Florence Elks.
With the grant, the Florence Elks’ Lodge has donated a total of $8,000 this year to community agencies and partners.
