Dueling piano concert kicks off ‘Play Me, I’m Yours’ this Friday
Once again, Florence will be treated to piano music from the streets. The 2016 Play Me I’m Yours/Street Pianos will open with a dueling piano concert on Friday, April 15, at Willcox Plaza, 252 W Evans St. downtown from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Pianists are Marty Richardson and Greg Cloninger. All are welcome to enjoy the music, dancing, and refreshments. The event is the kick-off for the two week festival featuring 27 pianos placed throughout Florence and Lake City.
The public is invited to play any or all the pianos at any time. A series of noon concerts will be presented daily. The musician’s schedule will be posted on Facebook. All the pianos have been decorated by local artists and the public is invited to vote for its favorite. Go to the web site “streetpianosflorence.com” and select the location you wish to vote for or text 503-967-7024 and enter the piano number.
Added to this year’s event is a unique inflatable sculpture by Frank Hyder. It will appear in various locations throughout the event. The Founding Sponsors are The Willcox, Buyck & Williams Foundation, King Cadillac Buick GMC, Hotel Florence and Victor’s, Duke Energy Progress, and Drs. Bruce & Lee Foundation. This project is made possible through funding from the Florence Regional Arts Alliance’s Quarterly Grants Program, which is funded in part by a generous award from Honda of South Carolina, the South Carolina Arts Commission and the John and Susan Bennett Memorial Arts Fund of the Coastal Community Foundation of SC.
