Cooks for Christ to host benefit for Munnerlyns
Cooks for Christ will host a Chicken Bog Benefit for Marvin and Brenda Munnerlyn on Thursday, March 10 at the West Florence Fire Station on Pine Needles Road. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m until 2 p.m. and dinner will be served from 4 until 7 p.m. A bake sale will be held all day. Plates are $7 each and include chicken bog, green beans, slaw and bread. Lunch and dinner can be delivered for orders of seven plates or more.
The Munnerlyns reside in Florence and are members of Palmetto Street Church of God. Brenda was originally diagnosed with infiltrating ductal carcinoma (breast cancer) at the end of 2012. She received as many chemo treatments as her body would tolerate, a mastectomy and 36 radiation treatments.
Unfortunately, she recently learned that the cancer has metastasized as Stage IV and is in her lung, lymph nodes, bones, chest wall and spine. She is currently undergoing 56 radiation treatments, five rounds of chemo, and will begin another type of chemo when the radiation is complete.
Marvin underwent 14 surgeries last year as a result of complications from a blocked intestine. He has also had surgery to remove his bladder because of cancer. During this year, he lost all sight in his left eye and most of the sight in his right eye to glaucoma.
Following a recent three week stay in the hospital for sepsis pneumonia, he stayed in inpatient rehab for three weeks and is now on oxygen. He has rehab twice a week and will start pulmonary rehab as soon as possible. Funds raised from this benefit will be used for on-going medical expenses, supplies, medications, and various expenses for the Munnerlyn family.
To donate, make checks payable to the “Munnerlyn Medical Fund.” Donations can be mailed to Palmetto Street Church of God, 3132 West Palmetto Street, Florence, SC 29501.
