American Legion conducts Civic Awards banquet

The Fred H. Sexton American Legion Post held its annual Civic Awards Banquet on April 12. The post recognized members of the community that have served the public in an outstanding manner this past year. After a catered dinner, Post Commander Charles Bethea welcomed the award winners and their families.

Post Adjutant Ken Curran introduced each winner and Commander Bethea presented them with an American Legion certificate to recognize their accomplishments. The recipients were: Teacher of the Year: Dr. Leah Barley - Royall Elementary School. Also, she was a finalist for Teacher of the Year for South Carolina. Fireman of the Year: Edgar Gomez. Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer: Oscar Merchant.

Outstanding Traffic Safety Officer: Senior Patrol Officer, William Blackmon. The Florence Police Dept. management team of Lt. Robert Drulis, Capt. George Mack, Patrol Division Commander, and Police Chief Allan Heidler, joined the banquet to support their representatives.
