Accounting club kicks off year
The Francis Marion University Accounting Club kicked off the year with its first meeting on Jan. 27. The meeting attracted more than 55 students, all of whom came to hear the chief executive officer of the South Carolina Association of CPAs discuss technology.
The dinner event titled “Real World Business” included a panel of six local business professionals that shared ideas about succeeding in the workplace. Included in the panel were: Liz Hinton, senior director of finance, ADP; Alison Benson, CPA with the accounting firm of Burch, Oxner, Seale; Avia Steel, a financial planning analyst with Otis Elevator; Samantha George-Mack, director of finance for PDRTA; James Murdock, a credit collections analyst with Sonoco; and Alison Swaggard, a CPA with the accounting firm of Webster Rogers.
The evening and dinner were sponsored by Webster Rogers. Special thanks to Danielle Cannon, current president of the local chapter of Society for Human Resources Management for her efforts and presence in making dinner possible.
