Local woman to have book signing
Joy Clary Brown, wife of Dr. Wayne Brown, Transitional Pastor of First Baptist Church of Florence, will have a drop-in book signing for her newest book, Finding Joy: 70 Life Lessons Along the Way. The signing will be held Thursday, September 20, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church, 300 South Irby Street in Florence and is open to all.
The book began with a series of life lessons Joy posted the week of her 70th birthday. She was not prepared for the response she received from Facebook friends asking her to continue posting the life lessons. So, after that first week, she expanded them into teaching devotionals and posted one each week on Thursday mornings. The devotionals were referred to as “Thursdays with Joy.”
Facebook friends then requested that the life lessons be made into a book. One even suggested the title, Finding Joy, and really, that is the theme of the book. As a play on words with her name, Joy says the title represents the life lessons she has learned while discovering who she is, but more importantly, Whose she is. Joy says God is at the center of the life lessons because, apart from Him, there is no true joy in life.
Joy describes the book, Finding Joy: 70 Life Lessons Along the Way, as being “seasoned with grace and peppered with humor.” The topics are varied and range from faith and hope to taming the tongue and preparing for the coming King.
As an inspirational author and speaker, Joy Brown has written, co-written, or has been a contributing writer in twelve books and has traveled extensively speaking to both Christian and secular groups.
Joy has been married to Wayne Brown for forty-nine years. They have two daughters—Meri Beth (married to Thomas Howard) and Molly (married to Christman Howard). They also are the proud and thankful grandparents of Ty, Mazi Grace, and Bronson Howard.
Joy saw the photograph, “Long and Winding Road,” on a Facebook post, and it captured her heart. Joy recognized beautiful symbolism in the photograph directly relating to the theme of Finding Joy. She contacted the photographer, Rodger Painter, a high school friend whom she had not seen in years, and asked about using his photograph for the front cover of the book. He agreed and even designed the cover. Interestingly, Rodger’s photograph recently won an award for “Symbolism in Photography” with Fine Art America.-
Although the book retails for $14.99, it will be offered at the book signing for $14. The proceeds will help Diversified Ministries, the missions and evangelism ministry founded by the Browns. In addition, a percentage of the book sales will be given to Mercy Medicine Free Clinic of Florence and the House of Hope of the Pee Dee. For further information and details, please call 843-662-9451.
