Cooks For Christ plans benefit
Cooks for Christ will host a chicken bog benefit for Caleb Fowler on Thursday, May 25.
Caleb is a 15 year-old student at Wilson High School. In April 2015, he was admitted to a local hospital and diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia. However, none of the antibiotics seemed to work and his health was slowly deteriorating. His lungs and kidneys were slowly filling up with blood and after several days and numerous procedures, Caleb was diagnosed with Wegener’s Granulomatosis, a very rare auto-immune disease normally diagnosed in adults.
Treatment for this disease is plasmapheresis, high doses of steroids then months of chemotherapy. The disease has caused damage to his kidneys and he is in need of a transplant.
Anyone interested in donating a kidney is asked to contact Dean Fowler at (843) 245-8904.
Cooks for Christ is raising money to assist the family with medical bills, prescriptions and travel expenses.
Caleb’s benefit will be held at the West Florence Fire Station on Pine Needles Road in Florence. Plates are $7 each. The menu consists of chicken bog, green beans, slaw and bread.
Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and dinner will be served from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Drive through lanes will be open for convenience and a bake sale will be held all day.
