The Lighthouse in need of AC

on Tuesday, 25 July 2017. Posted in Letters to the Editor, Opinions

The Veterans Resource Center of Florence is located in the Lighthouse Ministries building on Elm Street, here in Florence.

Not too long ago the phone system in the building had to be replaced, which was a considerable expense. Shortly after, a heat pump went bad and had to be fixed. Now, another heat pump has gone bad in the middle of the summer where the temperature can reach the high 90’s. Lighthouse Ministries’ Executive Director has gotten estimates for fixing the heat pump--some are for a new compressor and others are for a new unit. All options are very costly and difficult to afford with the expenses of the past year, especially as they budget to repair their roof.

Because of the bad AC unit, we are running several fans throughout the building. I’m sure that running the fans and the extra strain on the remaining units is probably driving the electric bill even higher than it would normally be. The clients that come here for services are really feeling the effects of this bad unit.

We would really like to get the unit fixed/replaced for free, if possible, or at the very least, get it done at a drastic discount. For everything that Lighthouse has done and continues to do for this community, it seems that someone would be willing to step up and help Lighthouse Ministries. I feel sure they could give you a receipt for your taxes.

If so, please contact me at 843-615-6307 or Cecilia Meggs at Lighthouse 843-629-0830
