Mama always said . . .
By: Brenda Harrison
There are many things that our mamas said to us that we will always remember. I guess it’s because she repeated them so many times. Below are some sayings from my mom, as well as the moms of some of my co-workers:
“You can do anything you set your mind to.”
“God don’t like ugly.”
“Eat all your dinner because there are starving children in China.
“Money doesn’t grow on trees.”
“If you are going to dream you might as well dream big.”
“Can’t never could do nothing.”
“If you can’t say anything nice about someone, don’t say anything.”
“Wait till your daddy gets home.”
“You can be glad in the same britches you got mad in.”
“If you don’t stop crying, I’ll give you something to cry about.”
“We’re not air conditioning the outside.”
“When you get old enough.”
“Play with fire and you’re going to get burnt.”
“Keep making that face and it will get stuck like that.”
“Because I said so, that’s why.”
“Remember to mind your p’s and q’s.
Always wear clean underwear because you never know when you may get in an accident and have to be taken to the hospital."
“You’re not supposed to wear white after Labor Day.”
“Put off today what you can do tomorrow.”
“Anybody out past midnight is up to no good.”
“You can catch more bees with honey than salt.
“A little birdy told me.”
“When your babies are little they walk on your feet, when they grow up, they walk on your heart.”
