Bacon is back!!!
By: Brenda Harrison
Have you noticed that bacon is quietly making a comeback? But bacon is not just for breakfast – it is being used now in desserts, crumbled and sprinkled on donuts, and in candy.
Other things we have shied away from or completely forgotten:
How about tap water? I recently saw a promo sign that read, “Tap water. Choose Tap.”
Paper bags are becoming popular again too. I think that is a good thing, seeing how those plastic bags end up in our lakes, rivers and oceans, causing harm to wildlife.
What about CDs. Gosh, I was convinced by advertisers that the best sound came from CDs played on CD players, but now I’m told that vinyl records played via needles on record players are better. Have you noticed that record players are back on display in many stores these days?
Remember those Converse sneakers that were popular with students, especially basketball players, way back in the day? Well, they’re back – in all colors and even colorful print designs and sparkles – for a small fortune.
Automatic car washes were the fast and convenient way to get your vehicles cleaned, but now I’m seeing “hand wash and hand wax” places pop up all around town. That’s another good thing.
I never thought I’d see thick-rimmed glasses make a comeback, but I guess if you live long enough you’ll see everything reappear as if it is something new.
Black and white photos have been gaining popularity for quite a while, especially to capture those special occasions, even weddings. Some brides today are choosing to have all their photos shot only in black and white.
Makes you wonder if film cameras for the common user will ever comeback? How about those cube flash bulbs? They were kind of cool.
Of course, it is hard to beat digital photos which are not only sharp and clear, but truly instant – no waiting or expense for developing.
Southern Living Magazine says Terrazzo flooring from the 1970s is making a comeback along with Terrazzo countertops and back splashes. Now that’s a blast from past!
The builders and planners of Caliterra Living, a residential development in Dripping Springs, TX, report brass pieces and accents are coming back....just when I’ve tossed most of mine for brushed nickel.
In the fashion world, hair scrunchies, cargo pants and windbreakers are predicted to be reinstated in 2018.
Meanwhile, as I watch the world rediscover what it already passed up, pass me the bacon, extra crispy, no sugar please. I’m gonna enjoy bacon and pray it stays off the bad food list.
