Tri-Level Tennis League formed here

on Tuesday, 29 August 2017. Posted in News, Local News, Sports

The PD League is excited to announce two Tri Level Leagues for the fall of 2017. One will serve the Florence, Darlington, Hartsville area and the other will serve the Sumter, Manning area.

The state league coordinator and local league coordinators that have been doing Tri Level for a couple years to learn what has worked well and what has not worked well for them, says Ed Sprenger, PD League Coordinator. This season will be a test season for the PD League. Depending on participation we will adjust in coming years, he said

What is a Tri Level League?: A Tri Level League is made up of same sex doubles teams using three levels, one level per court for a team match. The emphasis of the Tri Level Leagues is fun-social-competition. In that order. There currently is no state championship for Tri Level. This league will be a little different from the Spring, Mixed, and Combo seasons in several respects.

Our Goal: To create a league that promotes the fun/social aspects of tennis allowing players/friends of different levels to participate on the same team.

Leagues offered:

–Florence/Darlington/Hartsville area - Matches to be played at Florence Tennis Center

Sumter/Manning area - Matches to be played at Palmetto Tennis Center

NOTE - Make sure you create your teams and players sign up in the correct league.

Levels of Play: - 2.5-3.0-3.5 Men - NTRP

Range 2.0-3.5

- 3.0-3.5-4.0 Men - NTRP

Range 2.5-4.0

2.5-3.0-3.5 Women  NTRP

Range 2.0-3.5

3.0-3.5-4.0 Women - NTRP

Range 2.5-4.0

NOTE - Players can only play on one team for this first season. Since all levels will be playing on the same night we are limiting the number of teams you can play on for this first season to help us gauge interest.

Team Size and Makeup: To be a legal team you must have at least one pair of each of the three NTRP levels for that division. We are also limiting the team size to 12 players. This will be a six to eight week season with five to six matches played and we would rather see more teams with everyone getting a chance to play than large teams where players will not be able to play many matches. Remember there is no state to play for...this is for fun.

Age Divisions: This first year we will only offer 18 & Over. Everyone will play at the same age group. Depending on participation and input we will look at adjusting this in year two.

Match Format: Each match will consist on one court of doubles for each NTRP level that division. Matches will be 2 of 3 sets with a 10 point match tiebreak instead of a third set. So a 2.5-3.0-3.5 match would consist of one court of 2.5 doubles, one court of 3.0 doubles, and one court of 3.5 doubles. Players are allowed to play up.

Day of Play: Matches will be scheduled for Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. We wanted to stay away from weekends based on what we learned from other leagues since this is during football and hunting seasons. Sumter area matches will be played at Palmetto Tennis Center and Florence, Darlington, Hartsville matches will be played at Florence Tennis Center. We are doing this for the first season to promote the social aspect of the league and may adjust in year two.

Cost: $10. This includes the $3 TennisLink fee
