McLeod Sports Medicine provided free physicals
McLeod Sports Medicine held their annual High School Physical Clinic at McLeod Family Medicine Center in Florence on Saturday, April 28. More than 700 physicals were performed at no cost for student athletes of schools that are contracted with McLeod Sports Medicine for athletic training services. Participating schools included: Timmonsville High School, South Florence High School, Lamar High School, Hannah-Pamplico High School, The King’s Academy, Florence Christian School, Pee Dee Academy, Wilson High School, Johnsonville High School, Lake City High School, Trinity-Byrnes Collegiate, Robert E. Lee Academy, Darlington High School, West Florence High School, Mullins High School, Creek Bridge High School, Marion High School and Conway Christian School.
A pre-participation physical is necessary to review an athlete’s medical history, overall health, and rule out any major health concerns such as cardiac or blood pressure abnormalities, sickle cell disease and others. The physical must be completed prior to the start of the sport season to ensure the athlete is safe for the stresses of athletic participation.
Conducting the physicals were physicians and medical professionals from McLeod Family Medicine, McLeod Family Medicine Residency Program, McLeod Emergency Department, and McLeod Orthopaedics. Staff from McLeod Pediatric Subspecialists were on hand for any necessary referrals to the McLeod Pediatric Cardiologist. Many McLeod nurses came to assist as well with height, weight, vision and blood pressure.
