on Tuesday, 11 July 2017. Posted in Good life, News, Arts & Culture, Local News

The Miss Pee Dee and Miss Pee Dee Teen Scholarship pageants, under the directorship of Nikki Player will be held on Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. The event will be held at the Pee Dee Electric Cooperative Auditorium at the SIMT building on the campus of Florence-Darlington Technical College.

The pageant is an official preliminary to the Miss South Carolina, Miss South Carolina Teen, Miss America and Miss America’s Outstanding Teen pageants. Miss Pee Dee will compete in the 2018 Miss South Carolina Pageant, while Miss Pee Dee Teen will compete in the 2018 Miss South Carolina Teen pageant, both to be held next June in Columbia.

“I want to thank SIMT and Vice President of Technology and Manufacturing Mark Roth and Director of Facilities Management Kathy Rogers for allowing us the opportunity to showcase their wonderful facility and bring an event of this magnitude to the college,” Player said. “The Miss South Carolina and Miss America pageants are huge traditions and for us to hold a local preliminary for these pageants here will make it more prestigious.”

In order to compete for the Miss Pee Dee title, contestants must be 17 years old and entering their senior year in high school as of the upcoming school year and must not turn 25 by December 31, 2018. They must also be a permanent resident for at least six months or be a full time student for at least six months in the State of South Carolina, never been married or have given birth to a child. The winner will be under contract as a contestant with the Miss South Carolina Organization and is only allowed to compete in her high school or college pageant during her reign.

Miss Pee Dee Teen contestants must be 13-17 (rising junior in high school for the upcoming school year) and be attending classes on a full-time basis in an accredited school or home school program and must be a resident of South Carolina for at least six months. Also the winner will be under contract with the Miss South Carolina Organization and is only allowed to compete in her high school pageant.

“The Miss Pee Dee and Pee Dee Teen Scholarship Pageants encourage contestants to compete and vie for scholarship money that will allow them to further their education,” Player said. “I want to highly encourage all young women between the ages of 13 and 24 to enter because the winners will not only get to compete for Miss South Carolina and Miss South Carolina Teen, but they will learn valuable lessons that will last for a lifetime.”
