To donate, make checks payable to the “Clara Zigler Medical Fund.” Clara is a smart, vibrant, and beautiful 10 year old daughter of Christine Richardson Zigler and Ryan Zigler. She loves watching movies and reading, playing with dolls, doing crafts, and spending time with her younger sister and brother. On July 1, she was diagnosed with DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma) a tumor that grows in the brain stem.
There is no cure and surgery to remove the tumor is not an option – it is considered terminal. Side effects are loss of balance, double vision, muscle weakness, trouble swallowing, headaches, and other symptoms. The mind remains intact and those affected are fully aware of their declining physical state. To relieve some of her symptoms and hopefully extend her time (estimated to be about 9 months from diagnosis), Clara received 33 radiation treatments and low dose chemotherapy for six and a half weeks this past summer. at MUSC in Charleston.
Even though her initial treatments are complete, Clara and her family have to travel to Charleston multiple times a month for appointments. Christine has taken a leave of absence from work to care of Clara. The funds raised will be used to cover loss of family income, travel and various expenses for Clara and her family.
