More than 30 volunteers from Duke Energy planted fruit trees and berry bushes last week to assist in the expansion of Briggs Elementary’s school gardens.

“Duke Energy purchased the trees, bushes, pots, and mulch as well as designed, planted, and fenced our garden,” said Tara Newton, Principal of Briggs Elementary.

Newton said many of the volunteers expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to enrich, build, and nurture the local communities served by Duke Energy.

“Our students are going to love picking the fresh fruit, thanks to these volunteers,” said Newton.
